| | IN DETAIL (SPOILERS) | HISTORY/DESCRIPTION: A creation of Dr. Jun Inage and Dr. Ken Funabashi, ARPA-01 is designed to be the ultimate artifical companion, whose major selling point is the ability to have sex with it. Unfortunately, it is hampered by an ancient operating system and complete indifference to human beings. POINTS OF INTEREST: ARPA-01 has at its core a 6510 microprocessor, the same that can be found in Commodore 64. For this reason, the font used for ARPA-01's speech is the Commodore 64 default font. It also emulates behavior from popular C64 games. ARTIST COMMENT: ARPA-01 is basically a parody on the robot girl genre, which was given a revival from CLAMP's "Cho-bits" series. It is also a perfectly good reason to revisit the Commodore 64, the computer I had while growing up. Unfortunately, a knowledge of C64 culture is necessary to understand many of the references ARPA-01 is based on. Although ARPA-01 speaks with the C64 font, I had originally decided that her text balloons should mirror the blue/light blue color scheme that appears after the C64 is powered up. It was suggested to me that I should return to the normal black and white balloon because the colors were too distracting and made it difficult to read. | | ALL COMIC APPEARANCES | | 199 200 239 247 | | ARTWORKS | |
