Mrs. Shibata, for some reason only Freud would know, finds her son a little more irresistable than she should. Bursting with unfulfilled sexual energy and tied down to a husband that is insufficient for her needs, she enjoys causing a lot of sexual tension when her son is around. However, she started a relationship with her son's girlfriend, and because she found a new outlet for her sexual drive her son got ignored by both his girlfriend and his mom. However, Mrs. Shibata was too much for Natsuki, and Natsuki died from exhaustion from Mrs. Shibata's charms. Seemingly unremorseful, Mrs. Shibata continued her ways from before, role playing as DC superheroines for her husband and teasing her son.

In the 2002 survey, she was the most popular female character, earning almost 30% of the votes.

I had a hard time with the Shibata character until she became a redhead (when the strip became regularly in color), after that she became one of my favorite characters to draw.
