|Do you know that [INSERT SITE HERE] has ripped off this strip?|
Of all the strips I have ever done, this one is the one that gets ripped off the most. This strip gets ripped off in two different ways -- either by removal of the header and adding the theiving site's name to it, or by reducing it to a text version. The latter version often steals the dialogue word for word but doesn't add the final panel, which words would ruin anyways. The latter version actually made it into the joke section of the December 2004 version of Maxim.
I don't know what to do about this, to be honest the whole thing of being ripped off (art and all) really got to me and is partially responsible for the glacial pace of updates that happened after this strip. I mean, what's the point of doing this strip if people just take your name off of your work and slap their own name on it? Artists have pride too, and we are generally proud of the work we do, and after working so hard on something to see someone take it, cut out your name and insert their own really hurt. People suggest it should be flattering, but I don't feel flattered, I feel ripped off.
This wasn't the first time my comic had been stolen but it was certainly the most ripped off. At one time I had big notices at the front of the site as well as at the top of the FAQ. Although those notices have been removed, the rampant stealing of this comic definitely injured my enthusiasm for doing the comic. If you see a site with this joke on it, please E-mail the person running that site, as my ability to get people to remove it myself has been rather futile in 90% of the cases.
